notice. The eligibility requirements decide whether the applicant is able to attend for the examination. Hence, it is suggested for all the students who are sitting for the JKPSC examination to verify the eligibility requirements before submitting the application form.There are various aspects that define the qualifying requirements include nationality, age restriction, educational qualification, and physical fitness. Therefore, applicants are encouraged to inspect each region attentively. Once the individual satisfies the eligibility conditions, then he or she may complete the J&KPSC application form. Candidates who successfully fill out the application form will subsequently be eligible to acquire the admission card. The J&KPSC examination is held to select candidates for different civil service positions that are given under the administration of the J&K government.

Here we will look at the factors relating to the Eligibility criteria in the J&KPSC Examination. State Commission has specified about the eligibility criteria as:

The candidate must:

a) Be a resident of the J&K Union Territory and Possess a Bachelor’s degree in any subject from a recognized university of India, or such other Institution as the Government in consultation with the Commission may decide, to be a recognized university.

  1. Also, the candidate or candidates who wrote the bachelor’s degree examination must prove that they were eligible to write the examination at the time of applying online for the main examination, and that she/he taken the required examination in full before the deadline provided for the completion of the preliminary examination application. If in case this requirement not be met, the candidates will not be allowed to sit in the mains examination.
  2. The provisional candidates, who have appeared in the final professional medical examination like M.B.B.S. or any other medical examination, and have not served their internship till the time they submit their applications for the said Combined Competitive (Main) Examination, shall also be allowed to appear in the examination on production of the certificate from the University or the Institution concerned with their application. In these circumstances the candidates will need to produce their original degree or a certificate from the relevant university or institution authorities at the time of the interview to the effect that they have complied with all the requirements which include the completion of the internship in order to be granted a degree.

b) Age : The requirement of age for candidates belonging to-

  1. Open Merit candidates,
  2. Reserved Category candidates & in-service candidates.

Reservation

  • SC/ST/OBC candidates who want themselves to be considered under the respective categories must produce a valid Category certificate by the last date of submission of online application for the Preliminary Examination.
  • The candidates who have claimed to belong to the reserved category shall be considered, provisionally for the purpose of the test, subject to confirmation of the category certificate by the Appointing Authority.

Note:Those who wish to be civil servants should note that if they have made a reservation claim based on a false, forged or fraudulent certificate, they will be barred from taking any test conducted by the J&K Public Service Commission. Besides, they may be subjected to other penalties as considered appropriate.

Horizontal Reservation

02 posts one each in Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service and J&K Accounts (Gazetted) Service for the candidates belonging to the category of Physically Handicapped / Disabled Persons in accordance with J&K Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights & full Participation) Act, 1998.

Domicile: Aspirants applying for the examination must hold the domicile certificate of the Union territory of J&K issued by the authority prescribed by the State Public commission.

Note:

  1. Appearing for the examination is counted as an attempt.
  2. In the case where a candidate passes any of the papers in the Preliminary Examination, he/she will be regarded to have sat for the Examination. However irrespective of the disqualification/cancellation of candidature the fact that the candidate has appeared for the test would be treated as attempt.

Syllabus

PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION

Paper I - (200 marks)

  • Current events of National and International importance
  • History of India and Indian National Movement
  • Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the world
  • Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues etc
  • Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives etc
  • General issues on Environmental ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization
  • General Science; Note: Questions pertaining to the state of Jammu & Kashmir may also be asked in

Paper II - (200 marks)

  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills

  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. - Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X level)
  • Note 1: Paper-II of the Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
  • Note 2: The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type.
  • Note 3: It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the Papers of Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore, a candidate will be disqualified in case he/she does not appear in both the papers of Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination.


MAIN EXAMINATION

QUALIFYING PAPER ON ENGLISH

The aim of the paper is to test the candidate's ability to read and understand serious discursive prose, and to express his ideas clearly and correctly. The pattern of questions would be broadly as follows:

  • Comprehension of given passages.
  • Precis Writing
  • Usage and Vocabulary.
  • Short Essays.
  • (The paper will be of Matriculation or equivalent standard and will be of qualifying nature only. The marks obtained in this paper will not be counted for final ranking.)

PAPER-I

Essay

  • Candidates may be required to write essays on multiple topics.
  • They will be expected to keep closely to the subject of the essay to arrange their ideas in orderly fashion, and to write concisely.
  • Credit will be given for effective and exact expression.

General Studies-I: Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society.

  • Indian culture will cover the salient aspects of Art Forms, Literature and Architecture from ancient to modern times.
  • Modern Indian history from about the middle of the eighteenth century until the present- significant events, personalities, issues.
  • The Freedom Struggle - its various stages and important contributors/contributions from different parts of the country.
  • Post-independence consolidation and reorganization within the country.
  • History of the world will include events from 18th century such as industrial revolution, world wars, redrawal of national boundaries, colonization, decolonization, political philosophies like communism, capitalism, socialism etc.- their forms and effect on the society.
  • Salient features of Indian Society, Diversity of India.
  • Role of women and women's organization, population and associated issues, poverty and developmental issues, urbanization, their problems and their remedies.
  • Effects of globalization on Indian society
  • Social empowerment, communalism, regionalism & secularism.
  • Salient features of world's physical geography.
  • Distribution of key natural resources across the world (including South Asia and the Indian subcontinent); factors responsible for the location of primary, secondary, and tertiary sector industries in various parts of the world (including India).
  • Important Geophysical phenomena such as earthquakes, Tsunami, Volcanic activity, Cyclone etc., geographical features and their location-changes in critical geographical features (including water bodies and icecaps) and in flora and fauna and the effects of such changes.

  • Indian Constitution- historical under pinnings, evolution, features, amendments, significant provisions and basic structure.
